Art by the water

Since 2001, the “Art on the Water” symposium at the Kriebstein Dam has had a firm place in the schedule of events of the Central Saxon Summer of Culture. With the support of ZWA Hainichen, the Zweckverband Kriebsteintalsperre and the municipality of Kriebstein, the idea has become a tradition and numerous works of art on a wide variety of themes have been created in recent years, which now form the art trail around the water. This year, artists will once again be offered a platform for their artistic creations and invited to take part in the plein air or to apply. This year’s plein air will take place from July 24 to 28, 2024 on the banks of the Kriebstein Dam in Höfchen. As part of the “Art on the Water” symposium, three projects will once again be created on this year’s theme “Welcome to the Kriebstein Dam”. Whether sculptures, sculpture groups, installations or painted wooden surfaces are created is left to the artists themselves. The only aim is to create a reference to water and culture. Please note: This is exclusively a wood sculpture symposium, other materials cannot be considered. The projects should be suitable for public outdoor areas, i.e. durable, weatherproof and structurally safe. In addition, an area of 15×10 cm should be planned so that a sign with the name of the artist and object can be attached. Your application documents should include the following: short CV about your artistic career, references and concept with sketch, short description including material requirements and size details as well as any additional requirements such as electricity, etc. Please send your application to: ZWA Hainichen. Ms. Seidel, reference: “Kunst am Wasser”, Käthe-Kollwitz-Straße 6, 09661 HainichenThe symposium site is located at the Kriebstein adventure dam. The exact location will be announced later. (Food and drinks will be provided for the participants during the symposium, this does not apply to relatives or accompanying persons of the participants.nA total of € 700.00 (gross) is available for each of three projects. This includes travel and tool costs. After the end of the symposium, each participant will invoice these €700.00 to the Verein zur Förderung des Mittelsächssichen Kultursommers e.V. within 14 days. The material will be made available to the artists free of charge. The invoice address is: Mittelsächsischer Kultursommer, Georgenstraße 19, 09661 Hainichen On the last day of the symposium, the projects will be awarded prizes. A total amount of € 500.00 is available for this purpose, which will be divided by the jury among the individual winners. The respective amount will be paid out to the participants in cash. After completion, all projects become the property of the Zweckverband Kriebsteintalsperre. In this context, they will become part of the art trail that leads around the Kriebstein reservoir. In consultation with the Zweckverband Kriebsteintalsperre, participants may select/suggest a suitable location for their project. The symposium will be widely advertised in the event calendar of the Central Saxon Summer of Culture. Press work will be carried out by the Association for the Promotion of the Central Saxon Cultural Summer e.V. Permission to use the CV and project data will be granted upon submission of the application documents. Due to press appointments, attendance is compulsory from Wednesday, July 24, 10:00 am to Sunday, July 28, 4:00 pm. Participation is at your own risk. Please note that it will not be possible to prevent spectators from entering the symposium site. The work area must therefore be cordoned off and the projects must be secured. For safety reasons, only participants are permitted to remain in the work area during the event. Persons who are not directly involved in the artwork must remain outside the work area.
