Franz Hecker Scholarship

As part of the Franz Hecker Scholarship, the Kreissparkasse Bersenbrück offers young artists in the field of fine arts (painting, sculpture, graphics and photography) the opportunity to work artistically for a period of three months without any major financial burden. Artists with a residence or residence permit in the Federal Republic of Germany are eligible to apply. The age limit is 35 years. A jury of experts decides on the award of the scholarship.

The scholarship is named after the painter and graphic artist Franz Hecker (1870-1944), who was born in Bersenbrück and was artistically active in Osnabrück and the Osnabrück region throughout his life.

The scholarship is worth a total of 10,000 euros . To this end, the scholarship holder should spend most of the three-month scholarship in the vicinity of the Hasemühle Bersenbrück (Osnabrück district) and work as an artist. Put into operation in 1293 as a convent mill of the former Cistercian nunnery in Bersenbrück, the Hasemühle has since undergone a long and interesting development (www.osnabruecker-land.de/erlebnisse/hasemuehle). Today, the Hasemühle is used to generate electricity and, in particular, as an event and exhibition space. Accommodation is provided in the granny apartment opposite. The costs associated with the stay are borne by the scholarship holder.

The award winners undertake to present the artistic works created during the study visit at the end of the scholarship or at a time to be agreed in the exhibition rooms of the Kreissparkasse Bersenbrück.
