SEMINAR
Change of perspective: Inclusion in the visual arts
A lot is happening in culture in Germany. It has become more sustainable, more diverse and more inclusive in recent years. Artists with
physical, mental and cognitive impairments can now be seen more frequently and as a matter of course on stage in particular; institutions are opening up to more diversity. The first signs of a rethink can also be seen in the visual arts. But how inclusive is it really, and what conditions are lacking here to enable artists with disabilities to gain access to academies, exhibition venues, residency and funding programs? What forms of “gatekeeping” exist in the visual arts system and how aware are those who help shape the system? In the seminar “Change of Perspective: Inclusion in the Visual Arts”, we will focus on these questions, investigate the status quo and explore issues of gatekeeping in education and professional practice. Through exchange, we will make the potential of inclusive art and exhibition practice visible and draw paths to a culture in which participation for all becomes a matter of course.

The organizers Deutscher Künstlerbund, IGBK and BBK Bundesverband in cooperation with the British Council would be very pleased about your interest and the exchange with you and cordially invite you to the seminar in Berlin. Please reserve the date in your calendar. The detailed program and the venue will follow shortly. The seminar will be held in German and English.
Yours sincerely
