Sculpture symposium City of St. Blasien

The streets of the town become a studio and art becomes tangible: Every year, Hochschwarzwald Tourismus GmbH, the town of St. Blasien and the Werbe- und Aktivkreis St. Blasien invite full-time artists to apply to take part in the International Sculpture Symposium. The event, which is known far beyond the borders of the country, will take place for the 28th time from Sunday, August 31 to Sunday, September 7, 2025. Work will take place under permanent tents in the streets of St. Blasien and on the cathedral square – in public and in front of an audience. At the end of the week, the works of art will be presented on the cathedral square, where they will be auctioned off in a public auction on Sunday, September 7, 2025. We look forward to receiving your application!

The call for entries and the necessary application documents for interested artists are available on the homepage hochschwarzwald.de/bildhauer-symposium. All professional artists are eligible to participate. The theme for the work proposal to be submitted is freely selectable. We provide tree trunks (spruce wood) measuring 160 to 220 centimeters in height with a diameter of 40 to 60 centimeters.

An independent jury will make a selection from the proposals submitted at the end of February 2025. The selected applicants will be informed of the result. The results will also be published at hochschwarzwald.de/bildhauer-symposium. A publication presenting all participating artists and their works is planned. For this purpose, a photo of the proposed work, a CV of the artist and a description of the proposed work at
are required. An artist’s fee of 1200 euros gross will be paid at the end of the symposium and after completion of the work.
