The Paula Modersohn Becker Art Prize is entering its eighth round – at the end of 2024, the prize will once again be awarded in three categories. The call for applications is now open and applications are being accepted. Paula Modersohn-Becker – an impressive artist who only achieved the importance she deserved after her death. She is considered a pioneer of artistic modernism and the embodiment of female self-determination. Many people have a special, often very personal relationship with this painter and her work. The Paula Modersohn-Becker Art Prize, which is awarded every two years by the district of Osterholz, is also dedicated to her legacy. In 2024, the time has come again: three prizes will be awarded. In addition to the main prize, there are special prizes for artists from Bremen and the district of Osterholz as well as the young talent prize sponsored by Sparkasse Rotenburg Osterholz. The main prize of the Paula Modersohn-Becker Art Award is aimed at professional artists who live and work in Germany. A degree from an art academy or comparable institution and/or proof of permanent activity as a professional artist (solo exhibitions, catalogs, regular exhibition activities in art institutions) are expected. An overall artistic position, a section of a work or a group of works is honored. There is no restriction in terms of artistic techniques and/or approaches, nor is there an age limit.
