The shift to the right in our society is unmistakable and worrying. Thousands of people across Germany raised their voices in spring 2024 and demonstrated for democratic, tolerant coexistence. The upcoming federal elections in February 2025 will not put an end to the shift to the right in society. Artists are called upon to counter the rightward trend in society and lend a creative and artistic voice to this important issue.
With the art project “WIR GEGEN RECHTSRUCK”, #buntstadt Braunschweig, the Forum gegen Rechts in Braunschweig, the BBK (Berufsverband Bildender Künstlerinnen) Braunschweig and the association KOPRA e.V. invite female artists nationwide and beyond to actively participate.
The competition not only offers the chance to win prize money of up to 2,000 euros, but also the opportunity to make the artworks accessible to a broad public. The submitted works will be published on the #buntstadt platform and can be used free of charge. The aim is to make a joint contribution to strengthening democracy and combating exclusion. The aim is to take a stand against xenophobia and anti-democracy and at the same time promote justice, equality and solidarity.
From January 1 to March 31, 2025, female artists from all over Germany and beyond can participate and show that art can bring about change. We have been able to win over the Stiftung Leben & Umwelt/Heinrich-Böll Stiftung Niedersachsen, respekt.tv, kopra e. V., the Vereint für Demokratie Fond and the trade union verdi as cooperation partners.
