Art & Environment Prize 2024

In 2023, Lee Ufan Arles and the House of Guerlain will jointly launch the Prix Art & Environnement, which will be awarded each year to a work of universal significance whose philosophical depth matches that of Lee Ufan. The connection to the environment resonates with the values that the House of Guerlain represents.

Lee Ufan Arles and the House of Guerlain share a common sensibility for supporting and communicating art, as well as a shared commitment to art and the environment. They promote artistic productions that are decidedly altruistic and responsible and open up new dialogs with nature.

The exhibition of the first winner of the Art and Environment Prize, Djabril Boukhenaïssi À ténèbres, will be on display at Lee Ufan Arles’ Espace MA from July 1 to September 1, 2024. The artist deals with the disappearance of the night and in this exhibition juxtaposes paintings and prints created during his stay.

2024: SECOND EDITION

With the Prix Art & Environnement 2024, Lee Ufan Arles and Guerlain want to develop a creative space that enables conceptual, semantic and aesthetic bridges between the work of young creatives and that of Lee Ufan. The prize is therefore sensitive to strong projects that propose a new vision of our relationship to modernity, as well as to works with long time frames and in connection with nature, the environment and materials.

After winning the prize, the winner will receive a six- to eight-week accompanying program with a production space and accommodation in the heart of the Arlésien region at the beginning of 2025. This “space-time” enables him to realize his artistic project, but also to meet the people and institutions relevant to its implementation: Encounters with artists, professionals from the art world and players in the region, but also with the public. A consultant in the Lee Ufan Arles team will accompany the prizewinner in his/her project by increasing encounters with artists, curators and actors at international and regional level.

The residency will be followed by an exhibition presenting the artist’s work during the summer months in one of Lee Ufan Arles’ rooms.
