Schwalenberg Scholarship 2025

Young art in an old artists’ town: Schwalenberg scholarship from the Lippe regional association

1 residency grant for visual artists

The 2025 scholarship is valid for the period from May 1, 2025 to October 31, 2025.

In addition to a monthly allowance, the scholarship offers a simple apartment and a workplace in the spacious communal studio in the Künstlerhaus Schwalenberg. At the end of the scholarship, a catalog will be produced and an exhibition organized.

Since the 19th century, the painters’ town of Schwalenberg in south-eastern Lippe has been a magnet for artists who found inspiration for their artistic work in the idyllic surroundings. An artists’ colony was established there in the early 20th century.

Since the 1970s, the Lippe regional association and the town of Schieder-Schwalenberg have continued the tradition of the painters’ town as an art venue with regular art exhibitions, the Schwalenberg Summer Academy and art events.

The Schwalenberg Scholarship of the Lippe State Association for Fine Arts has been in existence since the early 1980s. The aim of the scholarship is to support young visual artists. This goes hand in hand with the aim of establishing Schwalenberg as a place for a lively contemporary art scene, following on from the tradition of the Schwalenberg artists’ colony. The scholarship holders live and work in the Künstlerhaus, which offers apartments for artists as well as a communal studio with an idyllic view over the valley.

Who can apply?

The scholarship is aimed at visual artists of all disciplines who wish to live and work in the painting town of Schwalenberg. Prerequisites are
