Artheon. Gesellschaft für Gegenwartskunst und Kirche is offering an art prize for innovative art projects in public spaces on the theme of “Religion” for the year 2025. The winner will be determined in an open, non-anonymous competition. The prize is endowed with €5,000.
The prize is awarded to temporary or permanent art projects in public spaces (all branches of the visual arts, performance, sound installation) that touch on the topic of “religion” (Christian, ecumenical or interreligious) and were realized in the period 2022-2025 or are about to be realized in 2025. In any case, the project must be fully financed.
Public spaces include streets, squares, parks, green spaces, traffic islands and bodies of water that are accessible free of charge. Churchyards and gardens, cemeteries, memorials, etc.
Temporary or permanent works in church interiors are excluded.
Artists and any cooperating parishes or church institutions are eligible to participate. In the case of collaborations, the prize will be split: Artist 4000 €, cooperation partner 1000 €.
The following must be submitted: Documentation in text (max. 2 A4 pages), image (max. 10 illustrations or a short video of max. 2 min. length). Declaration that the project is fully financed or when it will take place in 2025. The application form.
