The open-space installation is a concentrated, vivid and tangible representation of the city’s more than one thousand years of significant history up to the present day, which cannot be found anywhere else in this form.
The aim is to bring Magdeburg’s 1,200-year history to life, not only for tourists but also for us Magdeburgers. The eye should be a meeting point, educational location, visitor magnet and signpost, because Otto is worth seeing.
For those interested in delving deeper into the topic, the aim is to create the opportunity to explore it interactively via app, video or QR code. To deepen the topics, for example museums, sightseeing routes, city tours or other attractions in the city. The eye thus forms an “anchor” and starting point for tourist city explorations and tours.
The Magdeburg City Council approved the implementation of the project in the city center area at its meeting on 19.01.2023. An artistic competition will decide on the design of the artwork. The invitation to tender for this was approved and released at the General Meeting on May 22, 2024, see >Invitation to tender
