Focus on the region

In 2022, the board of the BBK Saxony-Anhalt launched the “Region in Focus” format. Its aim is to create an intensive network between the board and the office on the one hand and artists, administrators, politicians and other cultural players on the other. We focus on one region for one year at a time, but we also aim to maintain the existing networks afterwards. We have big plans and the positive response encourages us to continue.

Region in Focus includes the following meetings and events in the respective region or city:

  • Meeting with BBK members
  • General meeting
  • Recording session
  • Exhibition “Generally fresh. New members of the BBK Saxony-Anhalt”
  • Meetings with art associations and other potential partners in the field of visual arts
  • Meetings with aldermen and administrative departments
  • Meeting with local politicians
  • Meetings with universities

2024: Harz district

The “generally fresh” exhibition format also cast a shadow over the BBK in the Harz district. We presented our new members at St. Martini in Halberstadt at the end of 2023 and welcomed more visitors than ever before. The kick-off meeting with the BBK members of the district took place in February. We made plans in a café in the center of Wernigerode and discussed the working conditions for visual artists there. A promising year lies ahead of us… A highlight for art lovers is coming up in the fall. We are showing the exhibition “generally fresh” in Ilsenburg Monastery.

2023: Magdeburg

The Magdeburg year brought close and fruitful cooperation with the Forum Gestaltung, where our “generell frisch” exhibition, our members’ meeting, our general meeting and a meeting of the cultural committee took place, at which we were able to present our concerns. But we have also spun threads with other associations such as theHO Gallery (admission meeting in April), the Kunst/Mitte art fair, Galerie Himmelreich, the studio community in Q.Hof and the Netzwerk Freie Kultur. We created a basis for a more intensive exchange of information with the city administration and the parliamentary groups of the city council, and in spring 2024 we will be a guest of the .lkj with a workshop.

2022: Dessau-Roßlau

The focus year began with the “generally fresh” exhibition in the former Schultheiß brewery. Then we found a great partner in the Anhaltischer Kunstverein, which twice provided us with a room for our recording session (K22, Orangerie). We have been in close contact with the city leadership and the city administration ever since and were also able to present our work to the culture committee. We were guests of the studio community in the VorOrt-Haus following the members’ meeting, which we were able to hold on the premises of Anhalt University of Applied Sciences. The close contact with local artists and the increase in BBK members from Dessau-Roßlau is particularly pleasing. After a kick-off meeting, the general meeting and the co-option of Dessau member Marion Münzberg to the state board, the DuU group (Dessau and surrounding area) was founded within the BBK, whose first project has become a series of exhibitions: the BBKarium Dessau – now sponsored by the NeuSTADT agency in Dessau. Dessau has a unique selling point with the permanent seat of a BBK member on the local design advisory board! We would also like to see this for other municipalities in the country, as visual artists are experts in the design of public spaces.
