Desideria Prize for Photography / Seeing dementia anew

Professional photographers, up-and-coming talents and amateurs are cordially invited to take pictures of people with dementia in a positively charged situation. With new, surprising perspectives, Desideria wants to change the visual language of a highly relevant social issue and bring about a change in awareness in society. Most people associate the topic of dementia with fear and rejection. Families affected by this stage of life do not experience it only negatively, although this is rarely reported in the media. Due to the positive response to the first edition of Seeing Dementia anew and thanks to the renewed funding, the Desideria Photo Prize 2023 will enter the next round. Applicants from Austria can now also take part. The prize is endowed with a total of 10,000 euros. The application deadline is June 15, 2024. Photographs will be awarded in the three categories “Professional”, “Newcomer” and “Amateur”; a special prize may be awarded. The jury also recognizes up to three other works in each category with a “Special Mention”. The honorary jury is made up of high-caliber representatives from the photography scene, the media and academia. Applications can only be submitted in digital form. Before you apply, please read the conditions of participation. By uploading your application and photo files and submitting them via the application form, you agree to the conditions of participation.
