With the “frei-raum” funding program, the Art Foundation supports exhibition projects on contemporary art. The program includes the possibility of applying for an annual plan for a gallery in addition to individual exhibition projects and exhibition blocks. Funding is provided for exhibition projects that create communication and exchange between artists and the public and place art, especially from Saxony-Anhalt, in the public eye. The concept of the program is not necessarily aimed at fixed locations, but also aims to encourage the development of new, unusual spatial concepts.
To this end, the Art Foundation supports artists, artist groups or initiatives, galleries and art associations with up to 15,000 euros per year. Grants are awarded for rental and operating costs, material costs for setting up the exhibition, fees for curators and supervisors, insurance, transportation costs, public relations work and catalogs accompanying the exhibition. Excluded are investments (e.g. purchase of technology and permanent fixtures for the exhibition rooms).
Artists, artist groups or artist initiatives, galleries, art associations, curators whose place of residence/registered office is in Saxony-Anhalt are eligible to apply.
The application documents include, among others:
- an idea sketch that shows what is special about the concept
- an exhibition concept or a draft program showing the planned exhibitions and the duration of the overall project
- a brief description of the planned exhibition(s)
- Work samples (A4, photocopiable, no catalogs) of the artists shown in an exhibition and their CVs
- CVs of the applicants and, if applicable, CVs of the curators
- an overview of the planned opening hours of the exhibition space or gallery
- a detailed cost and financing plan
Application deadline: June 12, 2024
