RETHINKING ARTS AND CRAFTS IN THE ORE MOUNTAINS
In 2024, the Association of Erzgebirge Artisans and Toy Manufacturers is organizing the innovation competition freiGEDREHT for the second time.

Professional designers and students are invited to develop new ideas for Erzgebirgisches Kunsthandwerk® and Erzgebirgisches Holzspielzeug®. Prizes include attractive cash and non-cash prizes and unique insights into how the world-famous wooden figures are created in the workshops of the Erzgebirge. In 2024, the motto of the innovation competition is “Getting to the point”.
- Idea for a product or a creative contribution in digital form, for example as a photo/graphic, design/sketch, text/illustration or as a film
- The reference to Erzgebirgisches Kunsthandwerk® or Erzgebirgisches Holzspielzeug® is important
The requirements
- All entries must have a connection to Erzgebirge Arts and Crafts® or Erzgebirge Wooden Toys®.
- Submissions are made via the competition’s online platform. Drafts and sketches are to be prepared as a 5-page PDF with a maximum data size of 50MB. Videos can also be attached to the application via a URL link.
- It must be submitted in German or English.
- They do not have to be new developments, but the ideas must not have been published yet.
- Vocational school students and pupils: from the 8th grade, maximum age 25 years, as well as classes or groups of pupils or groups
- Professionals: Full-time or part-time employment in the skilled trades or creative industries or corresponding studies
