The “XIII International Pleinair at the Otto Niemeyer-Holstein Studio” follows in the tradition of the highly successful artist plein airs held every two to three years at the ONH studio: “Ufer-Anfang und Ende der Welt” “MEER-Sehen”, “Reiter auf dem Großen Bären – Otto Niemeyer-Holstein in der Schweiz”, “Zeitzeugen – Spuren der Veränderung”, “Malerfreunde”. The VIII “International Pleinair at Atelier Otto-Niemeyer-Holstein” celebrates an anniversary: 100 artists as guests at Atelier Otto Niemeyer-Holstein.
In 2024, the Freundeskreis Otto Niemeyer-Holstein, Lüttenort e.V. celebrates its 30th anniversary. A total of 94 artists from Argentina, Norway, Russia, Sweden, Lithuania, Poland, Switzerland, Great Britain, Chile, Iran, the USA, Ukraine, Estonia, India and Germany have stayed at Atelier Niemeyer-Holstein since 1994. For the thirteenth time, artists are invited to Lüttenort, to the estate of the painter Otto Niemeyer-Holstein.
Situated at the narrowest point of the island of Usedom in the far north-east of the Federal Republic of Germany, this place is ideal for creating a link between northern and southern Europe. Otto Niemeyer-Holstein, who is considered one of the most important painters on the German Baltic coast, emphasizes the unifying element in his work: water. One of the painter’s characteristics was to seek contact and exchange with other artists. For several years it was an official ambassador on behalf of art, as president of the Baltic Sea Biennale. In November 2023, on the recommendation of the jury members, personal invitations will be sent out in Germany and abroad and announcements will be made in the press and to artists’ associations. The jury, chaired by Sabine Curio, will meet at the end of April. Six artists will be selected from the applications for the XIII International Pleinair at the Otto Niemeyer-Holstein studio in Lüttenort. The selection of artists will be announced in the press. Like Otto Niemeyer-Holstein, invited artists should be “admirers of the visible world” (Joachim John), working figuratively in order to be able to engage with the location: the island of Usedom and the artists’ estate – Lüttenort and Otto Niemeyer-Holstein. The conclusion of the plein air will be celebrated with a “studio party” on Saturday, September 14, 2024 with a small exhibition of the works created during the 10 days in the Neue Galerie in the Otto Niemeyer-Holstein studio.
