Group exhibition “FOLGELandschaft” with Kerstin Krieg and other artists from Leipzig and Upper Valais
The term FOLGE landscape was coined by the former opencast lignite mining areas, which have now been transformed into local recreation areas in many places. CONSEQUENCES Landscapes are thus created by human intervention in nature, but climate-related changes also shape the landscape. The two associations of artists, the BBKL e. V. in Leipzig and the Visarte in Valais, are working together on this topic. An exhibition will be held in both cities. The differences between the two regions around the cities are enormous – the former lignite mining area meets the Alpine landscape. The appeal of the collaboration arises from the crystallization of similarities: Both places are characterized by landscape formations that have been given a new face as a result of use by industry, tourism, agriculture and climate change. Plants and animals, but also people, have to adapt. In both regions, we use natural resources and thus contribute to massive changes. They present us humans with major challenges: local residents alone can hardly stop this change, but they have to deal with the consequences. The exhibition FOLGE Landschaft shows the artistic approaches to the respective situations and their challenges. It tries to make these visible and tangible.
