As part of the Day of Printmaking 2025, artists are cordially invited to apply for the exhibition “The Other Way Around”. On March 15, 2018, traditional printing techniques were added to the German UNESCO Commission’s nationwide list of intangible cultural heritage. Since then, numerous events have shown how vibrant this cultural heritage is – even beyond Germany’s borders.
“The Other Way Around” is a showcase of print art production relating to Dortmund and the Ruhr region. In order to emphasize the artistic freedom and diversity of expression in printmaking, the exhibition deliberately refrains from focusing on a specific theme. Instead, it shows works in different printmaking techniques that explore both traditional and experimental approaches.
Application conditions:
- The competition is open to all professional artists who live, work or have a special connection to Dortmund or the Ruhr region – for example through a degree or their origin.
- accepted printing techniques: Letterpress, intaglio, screen printing and lithography, both two and three dimensional. There are no size restrictions. Digital printing or risograph are only accepted in combination with the above techniques.
- Works on paper are exhibited without frames and hung with a magnetic system.
- Reproductions of the participating works will be used exclusively for the promotion of the event via social media and will be credited accordingly.
- Transport: Packaging and transport of the works are to be organized by the participating artists themselves. Unfortunately, any costs incurred cannot be covered.
- Liability and insurance: The organization is not responsible for transport damage. The works are insured for the duration of the exhibition.
- A small expense allowance is planned, but will only be calculated at the end of the selection process, so we know for sure how many artists will take part.
- Only works in perfect condition will be included in the exhibition. Creased, soiled or damaged works will not be exhibited.
- The organization reserves the right to reject works that do not match the details provided or the reproductions submitted.
