For over three decades, the KUNSTMARKT has been held on the third Saturday in June in the small half-timbered village of Friedrichsrode between Nordhausen and Mühlhausen in northern Thuringia. For a single day, the entire town, which is then closed to through traffic, is transformed into a colorful promenade and cultural mile. Numerous stalls along the main street and in the side streets invite you to meet and talk to the participating artists and, of course, to buy their works. Most of the courtyards of local artists and residents of Friedrichsrode are also open. The range of artistic disciplines represented at the KUNSTMARKT has always been extremely diverse and now attracts several thousand visitors to the town of 60 souls, including visitors from beyond the region. Music of various genres as well as activities and hands-on offers for children are included in the day’s cultural program as well as special culinary offers and simple gastronomy.
In order to provide visitors with a varied offer and program, we invite visual artists of all disciplines to apply for participation in the market by the end of February. If possible, please use the application form provided.
We expect all applicants to provide a meaningful presentation of their artistic work, details of the specific product range planned for the KUNSTMARKT and ideally also an overview photo of the stand design with details of its expected size (width x depth). All documents can and should be submitted digitally if possible. References to presentations on your own website, social media profiles or cloud platforms are also possible.
After the deadline, from around the beginning of March, a team from the association reviews all applications received, makes a pre-selection of participants based on the documents sent and sends them a personal invitation to take part in the market at the beginning of April – with a stand number, important information and a feedback form.

The market has long attracted national attention and attracts several thousand visitors to the picturesque northern Thuringian village of Friedrichsrode, with its 70 inhabitants, between Nordhausen and Mühlhausen on the third Saturday in June. In addition to a colorful market, guests can expect a diverse cultural program with music of various genres, hands-on activities for children and simple gastronomy.
Young artists and students in particular are invited to apply this year. They have the opportunity to participate without paying an application fee.
