A cooperation between artspring berlin and the art project STRouX
STRouX, an exhibition project at Atelierhaus Prenzlauer Promenade, invites artists to develop their ideas for three former porter’s lodges. These boxes, located at the entrances, passageways and staircases B, C and D, are identical glass rooms, each with an area of 8 square meters. They serve as a stage, showcase and space for artistic experiments and offer a unique interface between interior and exterior space. Thanks to their location and transparency, the boxes create continuous public access and enable direct communication with passers-by. This opens up a very special opportunity to integrate artistic works into the public space and create direct interaction.
Named after Johannes Stroux, the first president of the German Academy of Sciences, the STRouX project is dedicated to the transformation processes on site and the specific architecture of the Atelierhaus. The aim is to reinterpret and question the integration of the lodges into the space and the outside world.
The STRouX art project is located in the Atelierhaus on Prenzlauer Promenade. The six-storey prefabricated building has the rough charm of a place in transition: surrounded by scaffolding and decorated with graffiti, the prefabricated building exudes a raw, urban aesthetic. Around 50 artists from the Atelierhaus Prenzlauer Promenade e.V. association currently work here. In 2021, 30 more artists joined them for interim use, including the artists of the closed Kunstetagen Pankow. The building is also home to the Westerland music school, a sports studio, archaeologists and several small businesses.
For the months of January and February, we are looking for up to six artistic positions to be presented in the porter’s lodges. The choice of theme is free and open. Exhibition concepts that conceptually incorporate the special location and transparency of the porter’s lodges are preferred. Multimedia works, light art and artistic works that bring movement into the space and emphasize the shop window to the outside are permitted.
Artists can apply as an individual, tandem or group. It is also possible to submit a concept for all three boxes – this requires a clear justification for joint use.
The porter’s lodges are heated and have power connections. On request, a projector can be provided for the duration of the exhibition.
- The first exhibition begins on January 9 and runs until January 31, with a vernissage at the opening.
- The second exhibition series starts on February 5 and ends on February 28, also with a vernissage.
Depending on the effort involved, we will support the selected projects with an expense allowance of up to 200 euros, which can be used to cover material costs, transportation or as a fee. The deadline for submitting applications is December 8.
