St. Leopold Peace Prize

In 2025, Klosterneuburg Abbey will award the St. Leopold Peace Prize for humanitarian commitment in the arts for the eleventh time.

The “St. Leopold Peace Prize”, named after the founder of the foundation, honors works of art that deal critically with humane and socio-political issues. The St. Leopold Peace Prize is awarded to works of fine art in the fields of painting, graphic art, photography and sculpture which, in addition to their artistic aspirations, demonstrate humanitarian commitment and implement the specified theme.

Provost Anton Höslinger chose the following theme for the 2025 prize:

We even turn waste into money!

4 Hear this word, you who persecute the poor and oppress the oppressed in the land.
5 You say, ‘When will the new moon be over so that we can sell grain, / and the Sabbath so that we can open the granary? We want to make the hollow measure smaller and the silver weight greater, / we falsify the scales for fraud,
6 to buy the poor for money / and the poor for a pair of sandals. / We even turn the waste of grain into money.
(Am 8:4-6)

Artists of all nationalities, political and religious persuasions as well as groups of artists can apply.

The prize is endowed with EUR 12,000. The St. Leopold Peace Prize 2025 will be awarded in spring, as the works from the final selection will be included in the 2025 annual exhibition if possible.
